This article serves an introduction to the dealhead concepts of "Projects," "Teams," and "Milestones & Checklist." For more in depth exploration and explanation of relevant features, check out the articles in the Project Management collection.
What are "Projects"?
A “transaction” or “deal” is referred to as a Project in dealhead. Each Project is a separate workspace.
The two core components of a Project are Teams and Milestones & Checklist.
What are "Teams"?
"Which side are you on?...Buyer?...Seller?" Your Team for a particular Project is the answer to this question.
For each Project, individuals build out each Team by assigning other individuals to a particular Team.
A Project for an M&A transaction has two Teams—such as Buyer and Seller.
Invited individuals—whether or not the individuals have dealhead accounts—can access and contribute to the Project upon accepting an invitation to the Project.
Within a Team, "Team Members" assign "Team Captains." The Team Captain role is for individuals that the Team Members designate responsible to act on behalf of the Team for that particular Project (e.g., manage Checklist or send a Purchase Agreement to the other Team). All Team Captains across all Teams have identical rights within a Project.
While an individual's Team and Team Members may change from Project to Project, the individual's "Organization" never changes. Each dealhead account is associated with one email address, and Organizations are assigned to individuals based on that email domain.
What are "Milestones & Checklists"?
A Milestones is a key stage in a Project that must be completed before proceeding to the next Milestone. For example, a Project might have the following three Milestones:
The Checklist is the list of "Checklist Items." A Checklist Item is an individual action, step, document, or deliverable that is tracked and that the parties intend to be completed before a particular milestone is complete—such as a Purchase Agreement.
